Format
Each reenactment is followed by a surreal interlude, such as a music video set to a copyrighted song or another satirical skit, related to the original strip. A smiling mugshot of Jim Davis then appears, sometimes edited to fit the scenario. Most videos are a few minutes long, except for "07/27/1978" (one hour) and "Sex Survey Results" (five hours). The series satirizes the original comics' humor and serves as a surreal tribute to Davis.
Reception
Lasagna Cat was well received, with reviewers praising its insight into Garfield and comedy. It is considered part of the trend of "weird" Garfield internet memes; Smithsonian cited it as an example of people who "have taken up the challenge of making Garfield funny." A popular parody Twitter account was created in response to the hour-long episode "07/27/1978," which features actor John Blyth Barrymore monologuing about his obsession with a Garfield strip. The series was also cited as an inspiration for the Adult Swim short Too Many Cooks.
