History
The first sports club on Lefkada, Sappho, was started in 1925 by high school students and lasted only a year. That same year, a new law from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Education created the Directorate of National Physical Education, letting Prefects set up athletic associations. Under this authority, the National Physical Education Association of Lefkada "Tilikratis" was founded on May 3, 1927, by the Prefecture of Preveza. Its colors are red and blue, and its crest shows the letters Tau and Lambda on the left side of the jersey. The name comes from ancient Greek, meaning "he who holds a long spear," and refers to a figure from the Peloponnesian War. Local historian Panos Rondogiannis questions whether Tilikratis was a naval captain who fought at the Battle of Aegospotami in 405 BC. A statue of him was part of a monument at Delphi dedicated by the battle's victors.
