Pilot
The pilot episode of 20Q was recorded on August 16, 2008, and originally featured Joey Lawrence from Blossom. He was later replaced by Deeley due to a scheduling conflict. Ken Jennings served as the show's "residential expert," responsible for selecting the categories. The main game followed the same format as the original, but losing contestants received $1,000 for reaching the stage, while the round winner took home $20,000.
Each contestant used a digital scribble pad that displayed their guessed answers—people, places, or objects—to the audience before buzzing in with a final response. Only a single game was played per episode, with the winner advancing to the endgame. There, the player chose one of 25 covered balls, each hiding a multiplier number. If the contestant won the endgame, that number multiplied their $20,000 prize, with a maximum possible total of $500,000. The computer had a female voice and was called "Debra-Q."
