Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon
A sequel set 205 years after Tales of Phantasia.
Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon is a Game Boy Color role-playing game from Namco, released on November 10, 2000. It is the third main Tales title and the series' first sequel, unusual because Tales games usually have separate stories. Its genre is called a Dungeon RPG. Due to the Game Boy's hardware limits, it uses the Petit LMBS, a turn-based version of the series' usual real-time battle system. A PSP remake, Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, was later released.

Storyline
The player character discovers twin babies inside a glowing object that lands in the mountains, mistaking it for a shooting star, and decides to raise them. The boy is called Dio by default, and the girl is named Mel. Thirteen years later, in the year 4408 of the Aselia Calendar, Dio brings home a strange creature he found in the mountains. The twins keep it as a pet, naming it Kruelle after the sound it makes, "krr." It starts as a green, waist-high bipedal being but can change its shape depending on its power and mood. As Mel and Dio go about their day, a winged woman named Norn appears and tells them they have a doomed destiny. Without much explanation, she sends them to meet Arche, the only surviving time warrior from the events of Tales of Phantasia. Arche is 223 years old, possible only because she is a half-Elf, and lives in a pink tower decorated with hearts. Mel and Dio climb the tower, and Norn startles Arche by appearing and asking her to set up a trial to test the twins' hearts and bodies. After they prove themselves by fighting Arche, the twins return home. Norn enchants a painting of the sun to become a time portal to the year 4203. Mel and Dio travel to Euclid to speak with Claus, who tells them about the war with Dhaos from Tales of Phantasia. He first gives the popular version of events, then reminds them that history is biased, and finally explains the truth: Dhaos fought against users of magitechnology because they were recklessly draining the world's Mana supply. The twins also gain wisdom from the spirits Sylph, Undine, Efreet, and Gnome after defeating them in combat.
