Life and career

Clotilde Dusoulier grew up in Paris and studied software engineering at Dauphine Paris IX university. She worked as a software engineer in both California and Paris before launching her blog, Chocolate & Zucchini, in September 2003. It was one of the earliest food blogs and the first written by a French person.

In 2005, after securing a book deal with Broadway Books, she left her tech career to focus on food writing full-time. Through her blog and books, she covers recipes, cooking tips, thoughts on ingredients, cookbook collecting, kitchen tools, and restaurant reviews. Her focus has shifted over time toward sustainable food, emphasizing ingredients sourced in environmentally friendly ways. Today, she writes food and travel pieces for English and French magazines, develops and edits cookbooks, and works as a recipe developer, public speaker, and food trend consultant.

She writes mainly in English, though most of her content also appears in French. Her cooking skills come largely from watching her mother and teaching herself, plus a one-year course in traditional French cooking and several professional kitchen stints. She lives in Paris with her partner Maxence Bernard and their son Milan.
