Founded in Paris in 1882 by Maurice Dancourt (later known as Châtillon-Plessis), L'Art culinaire was a biweekly magazine aimed at professional chefs. Its debut came as a supplement to La Petite Revue illustrée in January 1883. By the 1890s, it was considered the world's top professional culinary journal, boasting contributors from Europe and North America and a claimed readership of 10,000. The magazine published its final issue in 1953.
