Background
The event was the first UFC event at Fiserv Forum, following two previous Milwaukee events at Bradley Center. It also concluded the UFC's seven-year partnership with Fox, as a new broadcast deal with ESPN was scheduled to begin in January 2019. This was the last UFC event on network television until UFC on ABC: Holloway vs. Kattar in January 2021. The lightweight rematch between Kevin Lee and Al Iaquinta headlined the card; Iaquinta had won their first meeting at UFC 169 in February 2014 by unanimous decision. Erik Koch was originally scheduled to face Dwight Grant in a welterweight bout but was removed on November 28 for undisclosed reasons, with Zak Ottow stepping in. A women's flyweight bout between Jessica-Rose Clark and Andrea Lee was cancelled on weigh-in day after Clark was hospitalized due to a weight cutting issue and deemed medically unfit to compete.
Reported payout
The disclosed payout to fighters, as reported to Wisconsin's Department of Safety and Professional Services, totaled $1,216,000 and excluded sponsor money, locker room bonuses, and fight night bonuses. Al Iaquinta earned $138,000 ($69,000 win bonus) for defeating Kevin Lee, who received $84,000. Edson Barboza made $100,000 ($50,000 win bonus) against Dan Hooker's $75,000. Charles Oliveira received the highest payout at $180,000 ($90,000 win bonus) for his win over Jim Miller, who took $68,000. Other notable payouts included Rob Font ($92,000) and Sergio Pettis ($33,000), and Zak Ottow ($20,000) versus Dwight Grant ($21,000).
