In 2003, Douglas Schwartz directed the made-for-television action comedy film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, which reunited the original cast of the Baywatch television series. The film premiered on Fox on February 28, 2003.
The story follows Mitch Buchannon, who was thought dead but actually had amnesia, as he plans to marry a woman who looks exactly like his deceased lover, Lt. Stephanie Holden. His old nemesis, Mason Sato, threatens the wedding day, forcing Mitch and his fellow lifeguards to reunite one last time. Filming began in September 2002 on Turtle Bay Resort, Oahu, Hawaii.
Plot
Mitch Buchannon, thought dead at the end of the 10th season, had actually suffered amnesia and recovered in a Los Angeles hospital; he has now retired from lifeguard duty. Taylor Walsh runs Baywatch Headquarters, where Leigh Dyer and JD Darius are in a relationship, and Mitch's son Hobie has started a relationship with Summer Quinn. Taylor lures Mitch back to Baywatch to introduce Allison, and everyone is surprised by her resemblance to Stephanie, especially Mitch's ex Neely Capshaw, who arrives hoping to win Mitch back and becomes suspicious of Allison.
Meanwhile, C.J. opens a bar and grill in Hawaii and invites many old lifeguards for a reunion, including Caroline Holden, now an actress. Also present are John D. Cort and Eddie Kramer, who begins a relationship with Caroline. Lani McKenzie is now a hula dancer and good friends with C.J. Kekoa Tanaka and Jason Ioane are in a relationship. C.J. receives a call from Mitch announcing his engagement and that the wedding is booked in Hawaii.
But Mitch's old nemesis Mason Sato takes pictures of his loved ones to plot revenge. Neely, still suspicious, fights Allison in the water and discovers fingerprints on her necklace, which she gives to Jason to have his detective brother run a check. After the engagement party, they take a boat to Haiku Island for the wedding.
