Dubiofossil

A problematic structure of uncertain biological origin.

A dubiofossil is a problematic structure that resembles a fossil but whose biological origin is uncertain. The term combines Latin dubius with English fossil. Such structures are temporarily classified as dubiofossils while awaiting evidence to determine whether they are biogenic (true fossils) or abiogenic (pseudofossils). They are often encountered in Precambrian rocks and in problematic microbe-like forms in meteorites.
