Background
Enzo Ferrari founded the Scuderia in 1929 to enter amateur drivers in races, mostly in Alfa Romeo cars, after a dinner in Bologna where he raised money from backers. When Alfa Romeo pulled its own team out in 1933, the Scuderia became its de facto works outfit, managing stars such as Tazio Nuvolari and Achille Varzi from Modena. Alfa later took racing back in-house and dismissed Ferrari in 1939. He then founded Auto Avio Costruzioni Ferrari, built the Tipo 815 for the 1940 Mille Miglia, and moved to Maranello in 1943. After the war came the Tipo 125, which debuted at the 1948 Italian Grand Prix.
