Básquet Coruña

History

Club Básquet Coruña, also known as Leyma Coruña for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team from A Coruña, Spain. It plays in the Liga ACB after earning promotion during the 2025–26 Primera FEB season. Its home games are held at the Coliseum da Coruña.

The club was created in 1996 through the merger of CB Ventorrillo and CB Arteixo. This new team replaced the former Baloncesto Coruña CAB, which had played its last season in Liga EBA before folding. After several seasons in Liga EBA, the club moved up to the LEB league, where it spent four years under the sponsorship name Sondeos del Norte. In 2002, the club sold its LEB spot to a new team, Basket Zaragoza, but continued playing in Liga EBA after its reserve team earned promotion.

Financial troubles kept Básquet Coruña out of competition in 2004, but it returned to Liga EBA in 2005. In 2007, the club was invited to join the newly formed fourth-tier LEB Bronce, based on its participation in the final stage of the 2006–07 Liga EBA. That debut season, it won promotion to LEB Plata, though it finished in relegation spots the following year. However, the club was reinstated due to open vacancies. Básquet Coruña stayed in LEB Plata until 2012, when it secured a vacant spot in LEB Oro, returning to the second division after a ten-year absence.

The team won the LEB Oro championship in the 2023–24 season, earning its first-ever promotion to the Liga ACB by defeating Melilla on the final day of the regular season.
