Did You Know?
- Alan Fettis, Nottingham Forest's reserve goalkeeper, was an outstanding player available for a few hundred thousand pounds early in the game.
- Viktor Leonenko of Dynamo Kiev performed excellently in the game despite being a reserve in real life due to the form of Serhiy Rebrov and Andriy Shevchenko.
Creation of new players
The game replaced retiring players with new ones generated from a database of first and last names by nationality, which users could edit to introduce comical names. Notable early retirees included George Weah and Ruud Gullit, whose replacements retained similar playing abilities, often producing outstanding made-up players.
