History
The club originated in 1906 when a group of young men from the Atarazana neighborhood in Guayaquil formed a group they initially called "Guayaquil." Two years later, they gathered again to make the club official, and Club Sport Patria was born on September 18, 1908. One of the original founders, Mr. Agustín Febres-Cordero Tyler, stated that the team first played on the streets of Guayaquil, some of which are now important city thoroughfares such as 9 de Octubre Avenue. In 1958 and 1959, the team was considered unbeatable in the Ecuadorian league and was regarded as a luxury squad. The starting line up in that period included Sotomayor, Ezio Martinez, Carlos Mendez, Jorge Iza Aguirre, Sierra, Jaime Galarza, Mario Saetero, Colon Merizalde, Gambina, Enrique Raymundi, and San Re.
