Background
Doxa Katokopias FC first climbed to the Cypriot First Division in 1998, but their debut lasted only one season—they finished 13th out of 14 teams and were relegated. They bounced back quickly, finishing third in the Second Division to earn promotion again in 2000. That second stint proved more successful: Doxa finished 11th and held their place in the top flight. Relegation hit again in 2002, but they responded by becoming Second Division runners-up the next year.
The 2003–04 season was brutal—Doxa finished last with just 1 win from 26 games and were automatically relegated. After a few years in the second tier, they earned promotion in 2007 and enjoyed four straight seasons in the First Division before being relegated in 2011. True to form, they came right back, finishing 2nd in the Second Division in 2012 to earn promotion. During their last five consecutive First Division participations—a club record—they played their home matches at Makario Stadium.
