History
Founded on April 14, 1962, Club Deportivo Guabirá claimed its first major honor by winning the league title in 1975. That victory earned the club its first taste of continental football in the 1976 Copa Libertadores, where they finished at the bottom of their group. In 1977, Guabirá became one of the 16 founding members of Bolivia’s professional league. A runner-up finish in 1995 secured another Libertadores spot in 1996, but the team again ended last in its group, though they did manage a win against fellow Bolivian side Club San José. The club came close to winning the Copa Bolivia in 2000 but fell to The Strongest in the final. After a 22-year absence from international tournaments, Guabirá returned to continental play in the 2018 Copa Sudamericana, qualifying by finishing 6th in the 2016–17 aggregate table. They were eliminated in the first round on away goals by LDU Quito. The team also entered the Copa Sudamericana in 2019 and 2021. In 2019, another Ecuadorian side, Macará, knocked them out in the first round. In 2021, Guabirá beat fellow Bolivian club Nacional Potosí to reach the group stage, where they lost every match.
