Lore & Background

Dawntrail takes place on the continent of Tural, across the sea to the west, with cultures inspired by Latin America and Southeast Asia. Players travel to the capital Tuliyollal to participate in a rite of succession to determine the next leader, serving as champion for Wuk Lamat, one of the current leader's children. The story follows Wuk Lamat and allies from Eorzea as they complete the seven Feats of the Tuliyollal Saga to find the fabled city of gold.

Reader's Guide

Dawntrail received generally positive reviews at launch, though it was not as well received as its widely acclaimed predecessors Shadowbringers and Endwalker. The expansion added two new jobs: Viper, a dual-wielding swordsmaster, and Pictomancer, a paint-based mage. A new Field Operations activity called Cosmic Exploration was added in patch 7.21, allowing players to develop a base on the moon and beyond. Another Field Operations activity, Occult Crescent, introduced in patch 7.25, features 'old-school' MMORPG gameplay with phantom jobs based on Final Fantasy V. The expansion's significance lies in its role as a narrative reset after Endwalker, introducing new regions, gameplay systems, and a graphical overhaul that sets the stage for future content.
