The property originated as Stan Lee's Secret Super Six, signed with DIC Entertainment in July 2003 for a TV series about alien super-powered teens taught by Lee about humanity. In February 2010, POW! Entertainment partnered with A Squared Entertainment and Archie Comics to launch the Stan Lee Comics line, retitling the project Stan Lee's Super Seven. A lawsuit from toy manufacturer Super7 in August 2010 over the name led to a rename. The first issue of Stan Lee's Mighty 7, a six-issue miniseries, was published in March 2012, with only three issues printed due to interest in adapting the concept for animation.
