History

The idea for We'Moon originated at Kvindelandet, an international women’s land in Denmark where 50–60 lesbians lived together in the late 1970s. The first edition was self-published in France in 1981 under Mother Tongue Ink as a pocket-sized handwritten astrological moon calendar diary in five languages. The first five editions were homemade and changed languages each year, created by volunteer groups across Europe. Mother Tongue Ink was incorporated in 1995. In 2009, it published a children's book, The Last Wild Witch, and in 2011 released an anthology titled In the Spirit of We’Moon – Celebrating 30 years.

Contents

We'Moon issues an annual Call for Contributions to women worldwide and includes about 250 pieces of original art and writing per edition. Its thematic focus covers feminism, goddess and earth-based spirituality, world community, environmentalism, peace and justice. The datebook features articles by astrologers Gretchen Lawlor, Heather Roan Robbins, Susan Levitt, and Sandra Pastorius, and lists lunar phase and astrological aspect data for each date. Contributors have included Joanna Macy, Starhawk, Alice Walker, and Monica Sjoo, among many others.
