Reader's Guide
Celtic, winners in 1967, went in as strong favourites, and Tommy Gemmell put them ahead after 30 minutes. Feyenoord's manager Ernst Happel had Jimmy Johnstone double-marked, and the midfield of Franz Hasil, Willem van Hanegem and Wim Jansen took control. Rinus Israël soon equalised with a header, Feyenoord's first away goal of that European campaign.
The score stayed 1–1 into extra time. With a few minutes left, Celtic captain Billy McNeill misjudged a long free kick and appeared to handle, and before a penalty could be given Ove Kindvall ran on and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Evan Williams for the winner in the 117th minute.
