The 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team, nicknamed the "Dream Team", was the first American Olympic team to include active professional players from the NBA. It won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, defeating opponents by an average of 44 points. The team has often been described as the greatest sports team ever assembled.

The Dream Team was formed after FIBA voted 56-13 in 1989 to allow professional basketball players to participate in international events. The first ten players were selected on September 21, 1991: Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, David Robinson, and Charles Barkley. Clyde Drexler was chosen over Isiah Thomas for the final professional spot on May 12, 1992, and Christian Laettner was added as the collegiate player. The team was collectively inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2009, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017.
