Background

The Big Hardee, a hamburger from Hardee's, was introduced chainwide in autumn 1995. It was designed to rival McDonald's Big Mac and Burger King's Whopper. Hardee's sister chain, Carl's Jr., released its own version, the Big Carl, at the same time. A commercial for the Big Hardee featured the Big Mac and a jingle: "More meat, more cheese, less money.

La la la la la." The sandwich was brought back in September 2009, priced at $2.29, roughly 70 cents less than the average Big Mac. CKE Restaurants had also re-released the Big Carl that August. This reintroduction was a response to McDonald's adding Angus beef to its menu, and it came with an ad campaign the Los Angeles Times described as "belittling" the Big Mac.

As of March 2025, Hardee's still sold the Big Hardee among its 18 burgers. The sandwich has three 9:1 beef patties, two slices of American cheese, shredded lettuce, and Big Twin Sauce on a 4-inch seeded bun, totaling 920 calories, 58 grams of fat, and 1,380 milligrams of sodium.
