Lani Tupu
The actor who embodied both the ruthless Bialar Crais and the gentle voice of Pilot in Farscape.
Lani Tupu (born 4 November 1955) is a New Zealand actor celebrated for his dual, iconic roles in the sci-fi series Farscape. Billed variously as Larney Tupu, John Tupu, or Lani John Tupu throughout his career, he originated the character of Bialar Crais and provided the voice for Pilot, the sentient entity tethered to the living ship Moya. These performances defined his tenure on the show from 1999 until 2003, with a reprisal as Pilot in the 2004 miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. Before landing these roles, Tupu had originally auditioned for the part of D'Argo. His portrayal brought a unique duality to the series, balancing the menacing presence of a former Peacekeeper commander with the gentle, nurturing spirit of an alien caretaker.

Lore & Background
Tupu's journey into Farscape began after he originally auditioned for the role of D'Argo. Instead, he secured two major ongoing roles: the complex antagonist Bialar Crais and the voice of Moya's Pilot. As Crais, Tupu portrayed a former Peacekeeper commander driven by vengeance, while simultaneously voicing Pilot, the gentle, organic lifeform bonded to the ship. Tupu continued this legacy by reprising his role as Pilot in 2004 for Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, cementing his place as a central figure in the franchise's history.
