The Alliance Alive
A rebellion against Daemon rulers in a sunless world.
The Alliance Alive is a role-playing game from developer Cattle Call for the Nintendo 3DS. FuRyu released it in Japan in 2017, and Atlus USA handled the worldwide release the following year. Its story centers on a band of characters leading an uprising against the Daemons, a race that has dominated humanity since they blocked out the sun a thousand years ago. The gameplay is traditional for Japanese role-playing games, featuring turn-based combat and exploration via a world map. This title was the last FuRyu game distributed by Atlus USA, as the publisher later shifted to NIS America for subsequent releases.

Lore & Background
The Alliance Alive takes place in a fantasy world divided into four lands separated by ocean. A thousand years before the story begins, Daemons invaded the human realm, creating a barrier that caused catastrophic climate changes and generated a cross-shaped energy flow called the Dark Current. The Dark Current settled into the world's oceans, cutting off each land and turning the sky black. By the game's events, the world is divided into zones ruled by a hierarchical government with Daemons as supreme rulers. The nine main characters are members of the Night Crows, a human resistance group fighting the Daemons to restore control of the world to humanity. Three additional characters—Robbins the Penguin, Shiki the samurai, and Matilda the Dragoon—are optional recruits.
Reader's Guide
The Alliance Alive represents a deliberate return to classic role-playing game design, balancing gameplay and story while incorporating player feedback from its predecessor, The Legend of Legacy. Its development began after The Legend of Legacy's completion in 2015, though its concept predated that game. Director Masataka Matsuura aimed to create a 'normal RPG' using his experience, gathering a prestigious team including SaGa series veteran Kyoji Koizumi as game designer and Suikoden series creator Yoshitaka Murayama as scenario writer. The game's turn-based battle system features formations on a three-by-five grid, an Ignition state that increases attack power, and Final Strike attacks that can be reinforced by adjacent characters. Rather than traditional experience points, character skills grow through an Awakening system triggered by frequent use. A high-definition remaster titled The Alliance Alive HD Remastered was released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in October 2019, followed by Microsoft Windows in January 2020 and Android/iOS in February 2021.
