Alundra 2
A light-hearted 3D action RPG with puzzles and a standalone story.
Alundra 2 is an action role-playing game for the PlayStation. Matrix Software developed it, and Sony Computer Entertainment published it. It was released in Japan in 1999 and internationally by Activision in 2000. Contrail served as the producer. Unlike the first Alundra, this sequel uses a 3D visual style. It is a standalone story with no connection to its predecessor, introducing a new cast and a fresh narrative centered on the hero Flint. While the original Alundra had a grim tone, this game takes a lighter approach. In terms of gameplay, Alundra 2 is an action RPG set in three-dimensional environments. Players can move the character freely in any direction and rotate the camera a full 360 degrees. The core activities include fighting enemies, talking to non-player characters, solving puzzles, jumping across platforms, and exploring. The story unfolds through on-screen text and voiced cutscenes. The player controls Flint, a young swordsman who never speaks. He fights with a sword and carries a shield that passively reduces damage; both can be upgraded to stronger versions. By collecting items called Puzzle Pieces and trading them with a character named Lord Jeehan, Flint can learn extra sword strikes, known as combos. Magical rings grant him special abilities, such as hovering in place or walking across harmful lava. The story takes place in the kingdom of Varuna. A powerful sorcerer named Mephisto uses magical wind-up keys to control humans and turn animals into mindless, violent machines. Flint, a pirate hunter wanted for treason, seeks revenge on the pirates responsible for his parents' death. The game opens with Flint sneaking onto a flying airship. Inside, he discovers humanoid robots with keys sticking out of their backs, speaking gibberish. Also aboard are three pirates: Zeppo, Albert, and Ruby. Flint overhears them mention that Mephisto alone understands the technology to create "mechanical men." Baron Diaz, who does not trust Mephisto, orders the pirates to watch him. Flint is spotted and attacked by Zeppo. The fight damages the ship, causing it to crash. Flint falls into the sea and washes ashore, where a villager finds and nurses him back to health. After recovering, he meets Princess Alexia and teams up with her. She reveals that her father is missing and believes Baron Diaz used the pirates to eliminate him.

Lore & Background
The story is set in the kingdom of Varuna. Mephisto, a powerful sorcerer, uses magical wind-up keys to control humans and turn animals into mindless machines. Flint is a pirate hunter wanted for treason, seeking the pirates who caused his parents' death. The game begins with Flint infiltrating a flying airship staffed by humanoid robots with keys in their backs. He meets pirates Zeppo, Albert, and Ruby. Flint is discovered, battles Zeppo, and the ship crashes. He washes ashore, is taken in by a villager, and later meets Princess Alexia. Together they investigate Mephisto and the Church of the Key. They are captured, Flint is thrown overboard but survives, reaches the capital, and confronts Baron Diaz. The Baron tasks Flint with retrieving three relics in exchange for Alexia's safety. Flint enlists the pirates' help, obtains the relics, and returns. Mephisto uses the relics to activate a tower, reveals he built it 2000 years ago to calculate the planet's nerve-center, and turns Baron Diaz into a mechanical monster. Flint defeats the monster, then Mephisto raises the Star Key from the sea. Flint, Alexia, and the pirates fly to the Star Key on a freed dragon named Tirion. Flint defeats Mephisto, the Star Key collapses, and the group escapes.
