Akane the Kunoichi is a platform game from Haruneko, an independent Italian studio. It first launched in 2011 on the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Indie Games service, and later appeared as a budget title on Microsoft Windows (via Steam and Desura), Windows Phone 7, and iOS.
The story follows Akane, a kunoichi with a secret love for her feudal master Goro. When Hiromi and her minions kidnap him, Akane sets out to rescue him.
Critics mostly received the game well. It became a finalist in the Windows Phone category of Dream Build Play 2012. Game Informer called the Xbox 360 version a "fine" old-school platformer for "one measly dollar." AppAdvice's Daniel Douvris praised the iOS version as a fun action platformer with retro artwork, calling it "a breath of fresh air from the endless piles of junk" on the App Store. Hardcore Gaming 101 ranked it among the best Xbox Live Indie Games.
