The novels follow the vampire Mitchell, the werewolf George, and the ghost Annie as they try to live human lives while controlling their supernatural instincts. The first novel, The Road, is set between episodes 1x05 and 1x06 and features the ghost Gemma, who appears through a door in Annie's living room, and the new hospital administrator Dr. Declan McGough. The second novel, Chasers, is set between episodes 1x06 and 1x07 and involves a lesbian couple, Kaz and Gail, asking George to father their child, while Mitchell befriends a cancer patient named Leo Willis. The final novel, Bad Blood, is set between episodes 1x07 and 1x08 and sees Annie's old friend Denise O'Halloran organizing a Bingo night that raises suspicions for Mitchell and George.

Reader's Guide

The Being Human novels are significant as the only novel-length expansions of the television series' second season, filling a narrative gap between episodes 2x02 and 2x03. They were written by authors who also wrote Doctor Who novels, lending genre credibility. The books were published simultaneously on 4 February 2010, and later released as audio books read by actors from the television series, including Lenora Crichlow (Annie Sawyer), Russell Tovey (George Sands), and Lucy Gaskell (Sam Danson). The audio book The Road was also released on audio CD in April 2013.
