Emily Binx

Background

Emily Binx lived during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. In 1693, the Sanderson sisters killed her by draining her life force. This event directly caused her brother Thackery Binx to be transformed into a black cat and cursed with immortality by the witches. Emily's death is the catalyst for Thackery's centuries-long quest for revenge and his eventual role in opposing the sisters when they are resurrected in 1993.

The Sanderson Sisters

The Sanderson Sisters are three witch siblings from the time of the Salem Witch Trials. In 1693, they killed Emily Binx by draining her life force and turned her brother Thackery into an immortal black cat. The sisters were soon captured and hanged, but before dying, Winifred cast a spell that a virgin would summon them on a full-moon Halloween night. In 1993, someone lit the Black Flame Candle, reviving them for one day unless they claimed a child's life force; they failed and died at sunrise.

In 2022, Becca and Izzy lit a new candle, resurrecting them again. Winifred accidentally killed Sarah and Mary with a spell that took what she valued most. Heartbroken, she cast another spell that disintegrated her and reunited the sisters in the afterlife. In Hocus Pocus 2, drag queens Ginger Minj, Kornbread Jeté, and Kahmora Hall impersonated the sisters in a costume contest.
