Panday, also referred to as *Ang Panday*, is a Philippine fantasy drama series that aired on ABS-CBN. It is based on the comic book character of the same name, created by Carlo J. Caparas with illustrations by Steve Gan. The show was directed by Toto Natividad and starred Jericho Rosales and Heart Evangelista. It ran on the network’s Primetime Bida block and on TFC worldwide from November 7, 2005, to May 26, 2006. This series is a television adaptation of the early-1980s *Ang Panday* film series starring Fernando Poe Jr.
The word *Panday* means “blacksmith.” The story follows a blacksmith who forges an enchanted sword, granting him special powers to fight dark forces. The series was primarily shot in studios and locations in Luzon.
In the plot, a meteor crashes into the desert of Sto. Sepulcro. The town blacksmith, Flavio, uses fragments of the meteor to forge a dagger and a church bell. He wields the dagger against the evil Sombra Oscura, which constantly attacks the town. By mystical power, the dagger transforms into a great sword whenever Flavio uses it. In his final battle, Flavio faces Lizardo, the son of Rodgin and leader of the Sombras. Flavio prevails, vanquishing Lizardo. After saving Sto. Sepulcro, Flavio decides to give up his sword. He goes to the church and casts the weapon into the bell he made. A white light shoots from the sky, lifting Panday into the heavens. The people rejoice, but unbeknownst to them, the Sombras discover that part of Lizardo—his brain—still lives. To resurrect him, they must travel through time and space to find the girl who can revive their master. In that new time, Tristan (played by Jericho Rosales), the town’s blacksmith, forges another sword similar to the one Flavio created.
The main cast includes Jericho Rosales as Tristan/Panday and Heart Evangelista as Eden/Camia. Supporting roles are played by Victor Neri as Lizardo, Nante Montreal as Tata Selo, and Julio Pacheco as Utoy.
