Krystala

Krystala is a Philippine television series that blends drama, science fiction, fantasy, and adventure. It was produced and broadcast by ABS-CBN, airing as part of the network's Primetime Bida lineup from October 11, 2004, to April 22, 2005. The show replaced Victim Undercover and starred Judy Ann Santos in the lead role. Direction was handled by Trina N. Dayrit, Rory B. Quintos, Mae R. Cruz, and Nuel C. Naval.

The story follows a young woman named Tala, who discovers a crystal in a cave containing the imprisoned spirit of Luwalhati, a legendary diwata sorceress. Luwalhati had been trapped there a century earlier by a demon named Harimon. Tala agrees to help Luwalhati eliminate evil spirits that, when they come into contact with humans, cause chaos and corruption. Believing these spirits would gather in Manila, Tala leaves her Madulom tribe and moves to the city, where she works at a shopping mall to blend in. She later learns that many of these spirits are connected to Harimon, who has also been freed—by a young girl named Zorah. Tala eventually discovers that Zorah is her mother, who abandoned her after becoming possessed by Harimon. When Harimon and his allies—Super Z, Kamagona, Terracota, and Luminax—resurface to unleash a greater evil, Tala uses her crystal to transform into the gold-and-blue superheroine Krystala, protecting the helpless and her close friends.

Tala was originally named Faith, the daughter of Zorina and Martin de Gracia. As a child, she fled from a man named Bacchus, who killed her father and kidnapped her mother. A couple from the Madulom tribe, Aleta and Joram, found her crying near their daughter's grave. Despite concerns that adopting an outsider would bring bad luck, Aleta took Faith in, renamed her Tala, and raised her with guidance from the village fairy Ima. Years later, Tala stumbled into a cave and found a crystal. Luwalhati's voice emerged, declaring Tala the chosen one, anointed by the Mountain's Diwatas to rid the world of evil engkantos. When Tala picked up the crystal, Luwalhati was freed, and Tala gained powers. By saying "Sa kapangyarihan ng kristal, ako ang iyong sugo, Krystala!" she could transform into the superheroine Krystala.

The show's opening night earned a 36% rating, making it a hit among Philippine viewers, particularly in Mega Manila, where ABS-CBN had been losing ground.
