Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba

A paralyzed man gains superpowers from a Tikbalang.

Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba

Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba is a fantasy TV series from the Philippines, produced by ABS-CBN. It is the eighth show in the Komiks anthology, based on Mars Ravelo's comic strip of the same name. Dondon S. Santos directed the series, with Luis Manzano and Roxanne Guinoo in the lead roles. It ran as part of the network's Yes Weekend lineup from February 14 to April 18, 2009, taking over from Komiks Presents: Dragonna and later giving way to Komiks: Nasaan Ka Maruja?. Years earlier, the Ravelos had hired Reno Maniquis to update Flash Bomba's costume for a modern look, and he also created the show's logo.

The story begins as the heroine Dragonna bows out after her final battle, making way for Flash Bomba to start his own adventures.

Roldan Legazpi lost the use of his legs in an accident. To compensate, he trained his upper body to peak athletic condition, doing everyday tasks with his hands. He then heard a rumor about a Tikbalang—a mythical creature with a man's body and a horse's head—that would grant powers to anyone who could defeat it in combat. Despite his disability, Roldan challenged the Tikbalang, set a time and place, and won the fight. The Tikbalang kept its word and gave him superpowers, but as a joke, made them look awkward. Roldan received the Tikbalang's magic hair, which let him transform into a super-powered form with oversized hands and feet, along with superhuman abilities. He became the crimefighter Flash Bomba.

Roldan Legazpi lived comfortably with his wealthy parents until a run-in with a wicked Tikbalang left him paralyzed from the waist down. He stayed strong by building up his upper body through martial arts, learning to walk on his hands. He later challenged the Tikbalang to a battle, using his martial arts skills. The Tikbalang, now in human form as Tikboy, granted Roldan the magic hair, allowing him to transform into a being with huge hands and feet and superhuman powers. As Flash Bomba, he gained super strength, the ability to walk on walls, generate thunderclaps with his large hands, block nearly anything, and leap great distances. Despite his odd appearance, Roldan returned to the woods to master the mystical powers of the Tikbalangs. He took on the secret identity of Flash Bomba to protect the helpless and fight crime, while also enjoying some fame.

Lore & Background

Flash Bomba was a man who lost the use of his legs in an accident. He trained his upper body to an incredible level of athletic ability and did everyday tasks using his hands. He heard a rumor about a Tikbalang (a mythological creature with the body of a man and the head of a horse) who would grant powers to anyone who could defeat it in battle. Flash Bomba challenged the Tikbalang and defeated it despite his physical limitations. As a jest, the Tikbalang gave him powers that made him look awkward: large hands and feet, along with superhuman abilities. Using a magic hair talisman, he could transform into his super-powered version and became a crimefighter called Flash Bomba.

Reader's Guide

The series follows Roldan Legazpi (Luis Manzano), who becomes paralyzed after an encounter with a tikbalang. He strengthens his upper body through martial arts and learns to walk with his hands. He challenges the Tikbalang, who becomes human named Tikboy and grants Roldan superpowers via a magic hair. As Flash Bomba, Roldan has superhuman strength, the ability to walk on walls, generate thunderclaps with his large hands, and jump great heights. He uses his gifts to protect the helpless and fight crime. Flash Bomba is revealed to be the missing piece of the 'Isang Lakas' superteam, which includes past Komiks Presents heroes Kapitan Boom, Varga, Lastikman, Dragonna, and Tiny Tony. The team was inspired by America's Super Friends and Justice League. The series also features a redesign of Flash Bomba's costume by Reno Maniquis, who also did the logo design.
