History

The club began in 1938, playing in both the Liverpool Business Houses League and the St Helens Combination. Its name comes from the Pilkington glass factory in St. Helens. It later joined the Liverpool County Football Combination. In 1980, the club entered Division Two of the Mid-Cheshire League. That division was scrapped in 1983, so the team moved into the league’s single division. Pilkington ended the 1986–87 season in last place. A new Division Two was created in 1987, and the club became part of Division One. After finishing bottom of Division One in 1988–89 and again in 1990–91, the club was relegated to Division Two. It came second in Division Two in 1997–98, earning promotion back to Division One. The club finished last in Division One in 1999–2000 but avoided relegation because another team left the league. The next season, Pilkington won the Liverpool Junior Cup, a trophy it also claimed in 2004–05. In 2007, the league was renamed the Cheshire League. The club was runner-up in Division One in 2010–11, missing the title on goal difference. That division became the Premier Division in 2014. Pilkington finished bottom of the Premier Division in 2014–15 and was relegated to Division One. It won the league’s Presidents Cup in 2016–17, and after finishing second in Division One in 2017–18, the club returned to the Premier Division. The following season, it won the Premier Division title, earning promotion to Division One North of the North West Counties League. Pilkington became Division One North champions in 2022–23 and moved up to the Premier Division. At the end of the 2025–26 season, the club disbanded its first team in the North West Counties League and made its U23 team in League Two of the Cheshire League the new first team.
