Deathclaws

The series' signature apex predators.

Deathclaws are large, powerful creatures that roam the wilderness of the Fallout games and are among the series' most recognizable elements; critics praised their design and the fear their strength causes in players. In Fallout 2 the Chosen One finds Vault 13 emptied of its human residents and occupied by intelligent Deathclaws. Fallout Tactics describes them as massive beasts that tear enemies apart with sheer size and strength, far more durable than humans though lacking intelligence, and has the Beastlords use them as servants. They return as enemies in Fallout 4 alongside Mole Rats, Raiders, Rad Roaches, Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls. Their popularity led to many mods for taming or fighting alongside them, ideas later added as official features.
