History
Makuszyński and Walentynowicz created four books about Koziołek Matołek. The setting, Pacanów, is a real town in Poland. The creators decided to popularize the town after meeting a gloomy man from Pacanów in a Kraków coffee house who wondered how to help the town prosper.
Story
The stories center on Matołek's quest to find Pacanów, where goats are rumored to be shod. The anthropomorphic goat is nice, naive, clumsy, and not very bright, similar to Winnie the Pooh. His adventures take him from Africa to the Wild West, with visible patriotic undertones in his white fur and red shorts.
Adaptations and other media
Studio Miniatur Filmowych produced the animated series Dziwne przygody Koziołka Matołka from 1969 to 1971, released as a 3-DVD set in 2002. A full-length animated film is in production. Four educational games for small children have been released, and the series has been adapted for children's theatre.
