Septal margins are smooth, finely granulated, or minutely dentate, and there is no columella. The body plan shows radial symmetry, making all parts equally responsive to predators and prey. Euphylliidae inherit their structure from Scleractinia. Adults have an endoskeleton of solid aragonite and are classified as macrobenthos, with body sizes ranging from 2.0 to 200 mm. The planula larvae are zooplankton and mesoplankton, measuring 0.2 to 2.0 mm. Colonies are phaceloid, meandroid, or flabello-meandroid, with large, solid, widely spaced septo-costae that have little ornamentation. Corallite walls are similar in structure.
