A Thousand Little Trees of Blood

"A Thousand Little Trees of Blood" serves as the second season's sixth installment of the HBO teen drama *Euphoria*. Series creator Sam Levinson both wrote and directed the episode, which premiered on February 13, 2022. Its title draws from the 1928 poem "The Martyrdom Of Saint Eulalia" by Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca.

The cold open features Rue Bennett (Zendaya) in a fantasy sequence imagining herself marrying Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer). In the main plot, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) confronts his ex-girlfriend Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) about lying to the police, not about a sex tape—the tape was already destroyed by Maddy in a previous episode.

Suffering withdrawal symptoms, Rue struggles to open a Jolly Rancher wrapper. Earlier in the episode, she calls her sponsor Ali (Colman Domingo) to apologize for her relapse; he forgives her. Later, after the Jolly Rancher scene, Rue’s mother Leslie (Nika King) invites Ali to dinner, where he tells Rue’s sister Gia (Storm Reid) it is okay to be angry with Rue. Nate feels relief that his father Cal (Eric Dane) is gone. His mother Marsha (Paula Marshall) remarks that he was once a sweet boy before a dark change. Ethan Daley (Austin Abrams) performs in the school play while Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira) feels disconnected from him; after Kat gives him a series of lies to end things, he breaks up with her. Samantha (Minka Kelly), the woman Maddy babysits for, admits at her pool to having had an affair in high school with her best friend’s ex-boyfriend, mirroring Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney). She assures Maddy she will find someone who treats her right. In a flashback, Cassie’s sister Lexi (Maude Apatow) and drug dealer Fezco O’Neill (Angus Cloud) hold hands after watching *Stand by Me*. Custer tells his girlfriend Faye Valentine (Chloe Cherry) he is a police informant. Nate breaks into Maddy’s bedroom, pointing Cal’s revolver at her. Maddy initially pretends not to know about the recordings. Nate loads one bullet and plays Russian roulette with himself; Maddy begs him to stop, then confesses where the disk is. Nate says it was a joke and leaves with the recording. On the drive home, he calls Cassie, then meets Jules, apologizing for everything he did. They admit the feelings they expressed by text the previous year were genuine. Nate gives Jules the sex tape of her and Cal.
