Bachelor Party (video game)
An Atari 2600 pornographic game based on Breakout.
Last updated
It was also released as Mystique Presents Swedish Erotica: Bachelor Party.[1] The game is a knock-off of Atari's Breakout, where the player bounces a nude man at a wall of nude women.[2] Released in 1982, the Atari 2600 title Bachelor Party (also sold as Mystique Presents Swedish Erotica: Bachelor Party) is a pornographic game that American Multiple Industries put out under its Mystique brand.[1]
Making and release
AMI licensed the Swedish Erotica brand from Caballero Control Corporation in exchange for royalties.[2] The premium pricing and rapid release schedule were likely intended to mirror the adult video market.[2] Kesten claimed AMI only licensed the Swedish Erotica name to gain credibility with video store retailers.[2] Bachelor Party was one of three initial Mystique games released in October 1982.[2]
Following the backlash against Custer's Revenge, the other Mystique titles—including Bachelor Party—were incorporated into the PlayAround series.[3]
What the cited sources add
Willaert reports that the October 14, 1982 protest against Custer's Revenge was the largest in video game history at that time, with 200-300 protesters.[2] Kesten told People Weekly that he had $1 million already committed to his X-rated video line and had no plans for a G-rated turnabout.[2] According to Kesten, "the adult angle was the easiest way to crack the market".[2]
