Illusion (company)

Business history

Illusion began by making general adult games, but its direction changed on February 14 when it released Confinement and Makai, its first titles to use 3D graphics for characters and backgrounds. After INTERACT PLAY VR came out on August 24, 2001, the company focused on real-time 3D graphics games, which later became its hallmark. The studio gained a reputation for character customization and gameplay, especially after the success of VR Kanojo in February 2017. That July, a VR Kanojo hackathon took place, and the company announced a new brand called ILLUSION VR (later IVR) dedicated to virtual reality content. Over time, Illusion operated many sister brands, including Illusion Core, Illusion Pro, Vision, MOTION, Dreams, mixwill soft, TEATIME, and FULLTIME, but only Illusion and IVR remained active. TEATIME and FULLTIME still appeared as sister brands on the official website’s top page. Following the controversy around RapeLay, Illusion originally banned sales and use outside Japan, offering support only in Japanese for domestic users. This policy changed when Honey Select Unlimited launched in partnership with the English-language erotic game store FAKKU. Before that, fans often translated and released the games in English and other languages. Illusion announced its closure on July 14, 2023. On August 4, 2023, a new company called Illgames (stylized in all caps) revealed its game Honey Come, leading some players to speculate about a connection due to similarities in their products. All Illusion development and sales stopped on August 18, 2023, and the company stated there would be no successor.
