Gotta Look Up to Get Down

"Gotta Look Up to Get Down" is the 61st episode of *Entourage* overall and the seventh of its fifth season. It aired on HBO on October 19, 2008. The episode was directed by co-executive producer Mark Mylod and written by producer Ally Musika and executive producer Rob Weiss. In the episode, Vince Chase takes an interest in a model during a Dolce & Gabbana photoshoot, while Ari Gold receives a job offer from his late boss Alan Gray’s superior.

The plot follows Vince agreeing to the photoshoot on advice from Shauna. The manager, Freddy Lyne, introduces him to model Natasha, whom Vince quickly likes. Ari attends Alan Gray’s funeral with his wife and Warner Bros. executives. He tries to push Vince’s role in *Smoke Jumpers*, claiming Alan had agreed to it, but Alan’s boss John Ellis instead offers Ari the studio head position. Dana asks to be Ari’s right-hand, and Ari receives expensive gifts from Ellis while feeling frustrated with his office clients. Eric becomes manager for an aggressive model named Raina. When Raina replaces Natasha, Vince confronts Freddy about trying to sleep with her, only to learn Freddy is gay and wanted to sleep with Vince, causing Vince to quit the shoot. Ari decides to fly to Geneva with Melissa to meet Ellis, and at the airport he runs into the boys, who are leaving for a vacation with the models. Ari tells Vince about the offer, and Vince congratulates him as they depart on separate planes.

The episode was seen by an estimated 1.59 million household viewers, with a 0.9 rating among adults 18–49, a slight drop from the previous episode. Critical reception was mixed. Ahsan Haque of IGN gave it a 9.2 out of 10, praising the final scene between Vince and Ari and the acting. Josh Modell of *The A.V. Club* gave it a C+, arguing the show hadn’t earned emotional investment. Alan Sepinwall found little to laugh at and saw the job offer as a plot device. Trish Wethman of *TV Guide* highlighted the final exchange as strong acting that set up future twists. Rob Hunter of *Film School Rejects* called it fantastic until Vince acted selfishly. Mark Mylod submitted the episode for Emmy consideration in Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
