Ass Clowns
A controversial anthology film about parental, societal, and religious abuse.
Ass Clowns is a 2000 American pornographic anthology film directed and written by Thomas Zupko, produced and distributed by Extreme Associates. It presents a series of vignettes exploring themes of parental, societal, and religious abuse. The cast includes Taylor St. Clair, Kendra Jade Rossi, Kat Langer, Amber Woods, Michael Stefano, and Brian Surewood. The film spawned three sequels; the second, *Ass Clowns 3* (2002), was among the titles cited by the U.S. government in its 2005 obscenity prosecution of Extreme Associates, *United States v.
The plot follows several storylines. A wealthy man named Claudio and his wife torment their intellectually disabled daughter, who then masturbates to fantasies of soap opera star Luciano. The fantasy turns violent as Luciano tears open his head, drenches her in brain matter, and rapes her while mocking her intelligence. During the assault, he forces her to spell words aloud; she begins to enjoy it and receives a facial after spelling "cum." Elsewhere, a girl named Cat is gangraped by her drunken father and three friends. She dissociates, imagining herself as a silver-skinned humanoid having consensual sex with her attackers, who appear as life-sized toys (an alien, the Easter Bunny, a zombie, and the Tooth Fairy). When the fantasy ends, she is still being assaulted, sobbing for help. In another segment, police officers plant marijuana on a young couple, then take them to the woods, where one officer uses the drug before he and his partner rape the girlfriend while forcing her boyfriend to watch. The girlfriend eventually begins to enjoy the assault. After the officers leave, the girlfriend's father finds them, scolds her for taking his car, and forces her to perform fellatio, sarcastically warning that the cops will come for her. A narcissistic, virginal teenage girl named Taylor orders a pizza while preparing for prom. The delivery man is an undead brute whose pizza is covered in body parts; he attacks her, tries to force-feed her, and rapes her as her prom date listens over the phone. Taylor's parents, dressed as clowns, join the assault. In a cemetery, a woman covered in worms has rough sex with three demons while a priest, also covered in worms, masturbates nearby, reading from the Bible.

Lore & Background
Ass Clowns was shot on DV and was described by director Thomas Zupko as being more 'down and dirty' and not as 'story driven' as his previous film, In the Days of Whore, which was also produced and distributed by Extreme Associates. According to Zupko, he hoped to use Ass Clowns to 'expose all of the frauds, kooks, and hypocrites on this god-forsaken planet, including priests, cops, politicians, the bourgeois, and most important of all, 99% of the directors and producers in pornography.' The film was released direct-to-video by Extreme Associates on November 15, 2000, in both a standard edition and a director's cut, with the latter containing additional footage of sex acts like Kendra Jade Rossi being given a golden shower and Taylor St. Clair being fisted by Michael Stefano. It was rereleased on DVD, with footage having been cut out, in May 2002, and was out of print by May 2006.
Reader's Guide
Ass Clowns is significant as a landmark in extreme pornography and as a subject of federal obscenity prosecution. The film's second sequel, Ass Clowns 3, was one of the titles cited in United States v. Extreme Associates, Inc., a 2005 trial that tested the boundaries of obscenity law in the United States. Critical reception was mixed: AVN noted its 'very, very sharp edge' and gave it 3½/5, while Peter van Aarle of Cyberspace Adult Video Reviews found most sex scenes 'pretty hot' but described Kendra Jade Rossi's scene as 'too disgusting to review.' Roger T. Pipe of RogReviews commended the 'hard, shocking and mostly well shot' sex scenes but criticized the editing. The film placed second in the High Society list Top Ten Videos of the Year (2000). Its legacy lies in its role in obscenity litigation and its reputation as a deliberately provocative work intended to challenge societal norms and the pornography industry itself.
