Lore & Background
The game tells the story of Chroma City, a lively and colorful city invaded by the INKT Corporation, a corporate military dictatorship led by Comrade Black. INKT's 'War on Colour' drains all color from the city, turning citizens into Graydians encased in gray prison suits. Blob, a colorful hero from a jungle retreat, joins the Colour Underground to liberate the city. The plot is conveyed through pre-rendered cinematic sequences and in-game dialog, culminating in Blob defeating Comrade Black aboard his spaceship and escaping on a Hoverboard.
Reader's Guide
de Blob was originally developed as a downloadable game for Windows by eight students at the Utrecht School of the Arts and one student at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. The city of Utrecht adopted Blob as its mascot. THQ acquired the rights and handed development to Blue Tongue Entertainment and Helixe. The game received positive reviews, with IGN calling it 'one of the best third-party efforts to come over to Wii in a long time.' It sold more than 230,000 copies in the United States by December 2008, and THQ shipped more than 700,000 copies worldwide. The game's success led to a sequel announced for fiscal 2011.
