Content

Despite its title, Elvis Now pulls together recordings made up to three years earlier. The cover of “Hey Jude” dates from early 1969 Memphis sessions. “Sylvia” and “I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago” come from June 1970 Nashville sessions, the latter having appeared in part on Elvis Country. The remaining tracks were cut at RCA Studio B in Nashville during March, May, and June 1971. Unlike Presley’s other early-1970s albums, which each focused on a single style, Elvis Now blends country, gospel, soul, and pop.

Reissues

In 2010, the FTD collector series issued an expanded edition of the album. Alongside the original 1972 release, it added material from the 1971 Nashville sessions, including the singles "I'm Leavin'" and "It's Only Love," the B-side "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from the "An American Trilogy" single, and various outtakes. One such outtake is a nine-minute informal jam of "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."
