SK Gjøvik-Lyn
Norwegian football club based in Gjøvik, founded in 1902.
SK Gjøvik-Lyn is a football club from Gjøvik, Norway. It was founded on 1 February 1902 under the name Sportsklubben Thor. The team currently competes in the Norwegian Second Division, which is the third tier of Norwegian football. Their home matches are played at Gjøvik Stadion.
The club’s biggest accomplishment came in 1962, when they won the Norwegian Cup by beating Vard 2–0 in the final at Ullevaal Stadion on 28 October. That victory qualified them for the 1963–64 European Cup Winners’ Cup, where they were eliminated in the first round by Cypriot side APOEL, losing 7–0 on aggregate.
The club originally changed its name to Sportsklubben Lyn in 1903. Skiing and speed skating departments left in 1910 to join Gjøvik IF, leaving only football, so the club became Fotballklubben Lyn. They reached the Norwegian Cup final in 1914 but lost 4–2 to Frigg. After World War II, the name was changed to Sportsklubben Gjøvik-Lyn to avoid confusion with Lyn from Oslo. On 15 April 1993, Gjøvik-Lyn merged with Gjøvik SK. Ahead of the 2009 season, the first team joined the newly formed Gjøvik FF. On 23 September 2013, the club decided to merge with Gjøvik FF and change its name to Fotballklubben Gjøvik-Lyn, effective from 1 January 2014. The name was changed back to SK Gjøvik-Lyn on 10 March 2020.
