Biography

Sohodolls were formed in 2003 as an all-female band signed to A&G Records, with an initial line-up of Ana Doll, Maya Von Doll, and Pato. Their debut single "Stripper" was released in 2004. Later that year, Maya von Doll recruited guitarists Toni Sailor and Gavin Jay after attending a performance at the Rhythm Factory in London, establishing the second line-up. In mid-2006, shortly after the release of the single "Pleasures of Soho", both Gavin Jay and Sammi Doll left the group.

Maya and Toni then brought in Steven Weston on keyboards and synths, and hired Paul Stone on drums and Matt Lord on double bass, forming the third and current line-up. The band's first two singles, released on Alan McGee's Poptones label, reached numbers seven and twelve on the UK Indie Chart. Subsequent singles "Stripper", "No Regrets", and "Right and Right Again" received acclaim from publications including The Fly, Clash, and NME. Recording for the debut album began in 2006 with producers Robert Harder and Steve Lyon.

A download-only single, "No Regrets", was released in October 2006. The band toured with She Wants Revenge in July 2006, performed at Playboy Russia's annual Playmate of the Year party in Moscow in August, and played The Big Issue's 15th-anniversary concert in September, along with UK tours and international dates. Their debut album Ribbed Music for the Numb Generation was released in September 2007, preceded by the download-only single "My Vampire" and the single "Right and Right Again".

The album includes five previous singles and five newly recorded tracks, and was supported by a 35-date headline UK tour. In 2008, the album was released in Japan with new cover art and two bonus tracks: a cover of Hanoi Rocks' "Dead by X-Mas" and a Crystal Castles remix of "Stripper".

Tour

The band has toured the UK seven times and performed in Japan, Korea, Moscow, Los Angeles, Istanbul, Rome, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Brussels, Hamburg, Madrid, Pisa, Cologne, Oslo, Munich, Weinheim, Frankfurt, and Freiburg. They have toured with or supported IAMX, Ladytron, Klaxons, Daft Punk, Vive la Fête, She Wants Revenge, The Magic Numbers, Hanoi Rocks, Apoptygma Berzerk, and Marilyn Manson. To promote their debut album, they embarked on a 34-date headline tour starting at Hoxton Bar & Grill, London, on 4 September 2007.
