Dzeko & Torres

History

Luis Torres and Julian Dzeko first connected through an online forum dedicated to all-ages club events in Toronto. Torres had been working as a graphic designer and photographer, and he also taught piano before moving into music production, handling keyboards as well. Dzeko was involved in event promotion. Both producers learned to mix using FL Studio. They started performing as a DJ duo and creating original tracks together, and in 2008 they put out their debut single "Confronted" on DJ Chuckie’s Dirty Dutch Digital Vol. 4. In 2010, their song "Again" received a remix from Joe Ghost. By January 2012, they had served as opening acts for major touring DJs in the Greater Toronto Area, including Sebastian Ingrosso, Hardwell, Marcus Schossow, Porter Robinson, Erick Morillo, Michael Woods, and Quintino. Early that year, they dropped an unofficial remix of Of Monsters And Men’s "King and Lionheart," which climbed to number one on Hype Machine. Also in 2012, they released a remix of Trey Songz’s "Heart Attack" through Atlantic Records. By late 2012, their music had been featured on shows like Tiësto’s Club Life and Paul Oakenfold’s Planet Perfecto, and they debuted an unreleased track called "Togi" on David Guetta’s Radio DJ Mix. Their track "Hey" premiered on Steve Aoki’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 2012. Aoki then asked them to produce a full EP, which resulted in the three-track release titled Hey, out on December 18, 2012, via Dim Mak Records. The EP included "Buppy" and "Check This Out" and earned positive reviews. In December 2012, they signed with the AM Only booking agency and put out an official remix of Animal Kingdom’s "Strange Attractor." The following January, they appeared in the web series The Aoki Files. By the end of 2012, the duo had toured across Europe and North America. In 2013, they performed at the BPM Festival, Ultra Music Festival, Winter Music Conference, Chasing Summer Festival, Electric Zoo Festival in New York City, Coachella, and Tomorrowland.
