Lords' Alliance

The Council of Lords: merchant cities of the North and the Sword Coast standing together.

The Lords' Alliance, also called the Council of Lords, is a partnership of merchant cities in the Forgotten Realms, founded in 1325 DR. Its members come from the Sword Coast, the North and the Western Heartlands - Waterdeep, Silverymoon, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter among them, together with smaller free cities and towns. It was formed to check the Zhentarim's growing hold on the North, the Shadow Thieves of Amn, rampaging orc hordes and Northlander raiders.

Its member rulers often quarrel and compete, but set their rivalries aside when real danger threatens their shared safety and trade: they negotiate mercantile treaties, guard the trade routes and take charge of military campaigns across the North and the Heartlands, often hiring adventurers for the work. The Alliance's emblem is a golden crown on a field of red, and as of 1489 DR it was led by Laeral Silverhand, Open Lord of Waterdeep.
