Career
Aasbø began his driving career as a privateer in a Toyota Supra. He claimed back-to-back Nordic Drifting Championship titles in 2007 and 2008 while racing in Scandinavia, then made his first U.S. appearance at a global drifting invitational in 2008. In 2012, he took the win in the Pro category of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. He ran his first full U.S. season as a privateer in 2010, earning Formula Drift’s Rookie of the Year award.
The following year, he joined Papadakis Racing, replacing Tanner Foust after Foust left drifting. From 2011 through 2016, Aasbø drove a Scion tC in the U.S. and later a Toyota GT86 in Europe. In 2014, he won the Formula Drift Asia championship and finished second in the U.S. Formula Drift Pro Championship. The next year, Rockstar Energy became the title sponsor for Aasbø and Papadakis Racing.
He won the 2015 Formula Drift Pro title with a record four wins in seven rounds, along with the first Formula Drift World Championship, all in the Papadakis Racing Scion tC. That same year, he received FIA’s Driver of the Year for Norway from World Rally Champion Petter Solberg. In 2016, he finished as championship runner-up after two round wins. From 2017 to 2018, Aasbø introduced two different Toyota hatchbacks to the series.
He placed second in the 2017 championship driving a Toyota Corolla iM. In 2018, Papadakis Racing debuted the Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback, and Aasbø again finished as runner-up. He repeated as runner-up for a fourth straight year in 2019. For the 2020 season, Aasbø and Papadakis Racing unveiled their Toyota GR Supra, powered by a B58 engine that produces over 1000 horsepower while retaining the stock block.
Aasbø won the 2021 Formula D championship, earning a podium or win in all but two rounds—one win and five podium finishes total. He followed that with a second consecutive title in 2022, securing two wins and two podiums. In 2023, he scored three podium finishes and ended the season in sixth place. During the 2024 season, he recorded one win and three podiums, finishing third overall.
He matched that result in 2025, again taking third place with one win and three podiums. Outside of drifting, Aasbø works as a stunt driver, most notably in the Norwegian action film Børning and in Toyota advertising campaigns. His wife, Hunter Taylor, has also begun competing as a rookie drifter.
