Drawn to Life: Two Realms is a 2020 entry in the action-adventure series that began in 2007 with THQ and 5th Cell.[1] The game received "mixed or average reviews" on Metacritic and weak approval on OpenCritic, with 18% of critics recommending it.[2]
Making and release
The acquisition covered the 2007 DS title and its 2009 sequel, but not the SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off.[3] Two Realms was the third concept pitched to 505 Games in 2019, following earlier revival attempts in 2015 and 2017.[4] In Two Realms, Draw Mode received a major overhaul with new tools such as transparency locking and a digital color-picker.[5] In a second bankruptcy auction after THQ's 2013 bankruptcy, 505 Games paid $301,000 to acquire the Drawn to Life series.[3]
After six years of inactivity, the series saw a leak of Drawn to Life: Two Realms on a Taiwanese rating site in October 2020.[6] The reveal trailer was accidentally posted on 505 Games' French YouTube channel one month later, and was quickly removed.[6] December 7, 2020 was the game's release date.[6] Artists Chern Fai and Edison Yan, executive producer Joseph Tringali, and composer David J. Franco were among the many original creators who returned for this title.[4]
What the cited sources add
The original Drawn to Life and its DS sequel were developed by 5th Cell Media.[3] A Nintendo Everything article stated that the website DrawntoLifeGame.com was registered on October 12, 2020, though 505 Games' involvement was unconfirmed.[1] Another Nintendo Everything article described Two Realms as "an entirely new entry in the series"[7] OpenCritic's aggregate page included a review stating the game "lacks creativity in the gameplay and is overall a pretty dull experience"[8]
A 2013 Polygon article noted that 505 Games placed a bid solely on Drawn to Life during the THQ auction, while Nordic Games obtained most other THQ intellectual property for $4.9 million.[3]
