Dreamville Records
Founded on vision, built by family, distributed by Interscope until early 2024.
Dreamville Records is an American independent record label founded by rapper J. Cole and his manager Ibrahim Hamad in early 2007. The duo met while attending St. John's University, uniting Cole's desire to release his own music with Hamad's ambition to run a label. Originally formed as a vanity imprint, the label secured a distribution deal with Interscope Records on January 28, 2014, announced via press release and social media, alongside the compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers. The roster features artists such as Bas, Cozz, Omen, Lute, JID, EarthGang, and Cole himself, along with in-house producers like Elite, Ron Gilmore, and Cedric Brown.

Lore & Background
The label's history began when Omen, who met Cole at age 17 on a Canibus chat forum, joined the project from the start. Early affiliations included rapper Voli and the rock band StartYourOwnRebellion in 2011. The major turning point arrived in late 2013 when Interscope president Joie Manda approached Cole not just as an artist, but as a potential executive, envisioning him as a "Dr. Dre to his Jimmy Iovine." This led to the signing of Bas (who had been affiliated prior to 2014, having released Last Winter in 2011) and Cozz on June 26, 2014.
By December 8, 2015, the label expanded with Lute during the release of Revenge of the Dreamers II; Ari Lennox was featured on that project but officially joined the roster later. In February 2017, JID and EarthGang joined after touring with Bas and Omen. The collective solidified its cultural footprint from January 6 to January 16, 2019, with a historic 10-day recording session in Atlanta that produced Revenge of the Dreamers III, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 selling 115,000 units.
Reader's Guide
Dreamville operates through a unique blend of artistic freedom and strategic management. Ibrahim Hamad emphasizes asking artists, "what is your vision, and let us help you," rather than imposing restrictions. The label's foundation extends beyond music; established in October 2011 by Cole, The Dreamville Foundation aids Fayetteville youth with school supplies and a book club. In 2014, Cole purchased his childhood home for $120,000 to create rent-free housing for single mothers. The label also drives the annual Dreamville Festival at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, which sold out with 80,000 attendees in 2022 and 100,000 in 2023. While the festival's last iteration ran from April 5–6, 2025, featuring Lil Wayne and Erykah Badu without a live stream, it marked the end of an era before continuing under new management.
