Mixed martial arts career

Barriault started amateur MMA in 2012 under Sifu Patrick Marcil, finishing with a 4–3 record. He also competed in FightQuest Amateur Combat in 2014, challenging twice for the FightQuest Middleweight Championship and for the Vacant Hybrid Combat Middleweight Championship. Turning professional in 2014, he built an 11–1 record across smaller promotions, capturing three championships in TKO Major League MMA and Hybrid Combat, including both the TKO Middleweight and Light Heavyweight titles. He signed with the UFC in 2019.

Making his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 151 on May 4, 2019, Barriault lost to Andrew Sanchez by unanimous decision. He then lost to Krzysztof Jotko via split decision at UFC 240 on July 7, 2019, and to Jun Yong Park by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 165 on December 21, 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he prepared for his next fight by returning to Gatineau to train with Dave Leduc, a Lethwei world champion. On June 20, 2020, at UFC on ESPN 11, Barriault defeated Oskar Piechota by TKO in the second round, earning his first UFC victory.

On August 5, 2020, the NSAC issued a temporary suspension after Barriault tested positive for ostarine in the drug test associated with the Piechota fight. On December 4, 2020, the UFC announced he accepted a six-month USADA suspension for the in-competition positive test, and his win was overturned to a no contest. USADA reduced the suspension after finding no evidence of intentional use and concluding the positive result stemmed from contamination. He was fined $2,100 and became eligible to fight again on January 21, 2021.
