Candor Building

A fortress of truth where secrets cannot hide in the shadows.

The Candor Building serves as the central administrative and residential hub for members of the Candor faction within the walled city of Chicago. Unlike other faction compounds that may prioritize secrecy or modesty, this structure embodies the faction's core virtue of honesty through its open design and lack of hidden spaces. It functions as a gathering place for initiates who choose truth over self-preservation and houses the leadership responsible for maintaining Candor's integrity within the ruling council.

Quick Facts

Faction: Candor

Lore & Background

During the height of the faction wars, the Candor Building remained a stable point in Chicago's crumbling society. However, when the truth about Divergence and the Bureau of Genetic Engineering was revealed, the integrity of this location came under scrutiny. Many within its walls struggled with the realization that their own honesty had been manipulated by external forces. Despite the chaos outside, the building represents a sanctuary for those seeking clarity in a world built on lies.

Reader's Guide

The Candor Building is characterized by wide, unobstructed hallways that discourage secretive movement. Unlike Dauntless's industrial complexity or Erudite's labyrinthine labs, Candor prioritizes visibility. Movement between zones requires verbal confirmation of intent; members must state their purpose aloud to enter restricted areas. This rule reinforces the faction's commitment to transparency and prevents unauthorized access without deception. The atmosphere is often described as cold but clear, reflecting the harshness of truth. While it lacks the warmth of Amity or the thrill of Dauntless, it offers a sense of stability for those weary of manipulation. In the broader narrative, this location highlights the fragility of honesty when faced with systemic corruption. It serves as a reminder that even the most truthful structures can be compromised by external lies.
